Looking to learn more about which Skid will work for your UTV/ATV?
Contact UsWe often get calls at the MTECH offices asking about UTV recommendations. When purchasing a UTV for use in fire and rescue applications, there are many factors to take into account: 4×4 vs 6×6, two-person versus crew-cab, engine type – the list is long. However, there are three critical factors that we feel must be considered above all else:
Bed dimensions are important. Some of the new UTVs, such as the John Deere Gator XUV series, feature beds with raised sections at the front. Depending on the slip-in skid you’re looking at, a raised bed can become problematic. Honda’s new Pioneer series, with the protective cage attachment, can also interfere with some QTAC models, depending on height. Make sure you cross-check your bed dimensions against the engineering drawings located at the bottom of each product page, and you can view the specs on many of today’s popular UTV models in the table at the bottom of this page. We keep this table as up-to-date as possible, but please confirm on the manufacturer’s website just to be sure.
Don’t confuse maximum payload with bed payload. Maximum – or total – payload refers to the maximum total payload allowed – fuel, passengers, loose equipment, bed contents – everything.
Maximum bed payload is exactly that – how much weight the bed can hold. This is where your choice of firefighting or fire/rescue skid is crucial. QTACs are the lightest and most durable UTV skids on the market. We offer both dry and wet weights on each product page, and we invite you to compare those against the products offered by our competition. Whatever you do, don’t over-gross your UTV bed. If you’re looking at a QTAC that you think will be more of a load than your UTV can handle, let us know and we can offer restrictor plates inside the tank to reduce volume and water weight.
The QTAC Riser Kit for the EMS-F, EMS-R, EMS-L costs $210 and the riser for our shorter skids costs $185. Please ask our sales team for more details when ordering.
